[T]he relation of language to painting is an infinite relation. It is not that words are imperfect, or that, when confronted by the visible, they prove insuperably inadequate. Neither can they bereduced to the other’s terms: it is in vain that we say what we see; what we see never resides in what we say. — Michel Foucault

I finally moved in!

Today has been an excellent day. I woke up after a much-needed ten hours of sleep, and began getting ready to move in. My family and I called for a cab, and it finally came. The ride was all right; the guy that drove had terrible body odor and my mother was nauseated the entire trip. The cab driver didn’t seem to know where he was going; I had to constantly ask and even guide him myself based on my ability to read the GPS from the back seat.

Twenty minutes and forty dollars later, my family and I arrived at the dormitory. It is absolutely gorgeous! After meeting my wonderful roommates and their equally wonderful families downstairs, I took all of my stuff upstairs, and the first impression was that my room was massive! The living room area is monstrous, and the rooms are a fair size. The bathrooms are fairly clean, and the closets are spacious. I unpacked everything with some help, and eventually I headed out about 10 minutes west of the dorm to register. Everyone was incredibly friendly, and I finally had an opportunity to meet the nice Turkish girl that I had previously spoken to while I waited for my ID. Afterwards, I decided to roam around an area where a few of the organizations had tents out for the students to go to and ask questions. It gave me a good feel about what the school had to offer. Afterwards, I met with my family for lunch, and walked back to the dorms to get to know some of the people there. I spoke with some of the Orientation aides, and they were very friendly and nice to talk to! After that, everyone walked back to the dining hall for dinner as one big house. I got to know some of the people from the dorm, and then a few of us walked back together and went to the lounge for a general meeting. After going over some key rules, we all hung out at one of the aides’ apartments to talk and to get to know each other a bit more.

Everything is really great so far. I’m getting to know everyone’s name, and people are easy to talk to. The guys are pretty down-to-earth, and most of the girls are pretty. Today, there was a conversation about “falling in love” and someone mentioned how if you start dating someone from here, that it usually ends as a marriage. I didn’t really comment too much on that—it was probably the only thing I bit my tongue on today. I suppose it’s because I wouldn’t want to come off as someone that’s looking for anything. As nice as it would be, I’d like to become closer to some of the people here first. I’m sure everyone has their stories, and I want to make sure that I don’t begin to sever any relations with anyone due to reckless behavior on my behalf. I’d like to play it safe for the time being. I suppose attraction tends to be a dangerous thing in general. This is just a grey city to begin with, and I wouldn’t doubt that becoming sad would be too much of a difficult thing. It’s always nice to have someone that may be feeling the same way that you can comfort and embrace and talk to.

It will all happen in due time.

>Tera Melos - Sky Watch

I’m actually seeing these guys live in a few hours! It should be a fun show. I will try to bite my tongue and not make any bygones jokes, but I probably won’t be able to resist.
